Q2 2026 Work Truck Segment Highlight: Duty Classes Market Analysis

August 4, 2026

Earlier in 2026, Work Truck Solutions introduced a rotating quarterly segment spotlight to provide deeper visibility into unique, specific, commercial vehicle segments. For Q2, the focus shifts from Commercial Vans to Duty Classes, specifically analyzing the performance of Light-Duty (Class 1–3), Medium-Duty (Class 4–6), and Heavy-Duty (Class 7–8) work trucks and vans.

Light-Duty Work Trucks

Light-duty work trucks showed robust growth in sales (movement) and faster turn times, highlighting strong commercial demand.

The Q2 data underscores the light-duty segment as a primary driver of overall market activity. Robust transactional gains of over 31% QoQ in new light-duty trucks, paired with declining Days to Turn (DTT), signal that business owners are aggressively adding light-duty vehicles to their fleets. Pricing remains remarkably stable across both new and used categories, indicating healthy supply absorption and resilient B2B demand.

Medium-Duty Work Trucks

New medium-duty work trucks delivered strong metrics, marked by rising sales momentum and improving DTT despite softer availability. In the pre-owned segment, overall demand remained solid, with buyers continuing to find price relief in the used market, where average prices dropped nearly 4% compared to Q2 2025. This presents a compelling cost-effective option for fleet managers when comparing the average pre-owned price of $41,288 against the average new medium-duty truck price of $69,815.

Heavy-Duty Work Trucks

Heavy-duty work trucks, including class 7—box trucks, field service trucks, etc.— and class 8—day cabs, dump trucks, etc.— experienced softer pricing and rising turn times.

With many nuances in the HD segment, it’s important to note that this dataset includes multiple subsets averaged within the segment and doesn’t necessarily reflect the individual dynamics of each subset.
